Yesterday marked the historical launch of the International Symposium to Strengthen Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthetic Care by 2030. This event, led by the government of Senegal, brings together leaders and changemakers from across Africa to identify a roadmap toward safer surgery. In the groundbreaking kickoff sessions, 29 participating African countries discussed the findings from a recent baseline assessment that will form the foundation of the path forward. “Mortality rates in Africa have dropped by 40% in the last 20 years. Only 2% of the world’s doctors are in Africa," said Dr. Pierre M'Pele, Mercy Ships Africa Bureau Director, in the opening remarks. Learn more at https://www.mercyships.org/africa-celebration/
