Introducing Project Mahampy, our sustainable livelihoods project aimed at furthering the income opportunities of women in the rural village of Sainte Luce, southeast Madagascar, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of traditional mahampy reed weaving. The beautiful mahampy products are used across rural Madagascar, often during celebrations, births and funerals. They also make for wonderful bags, and great hats to protect from the sun! ๐ŸŒž Our mahampy programme is a multi-pronged approach, conducting socio-economic and market-based research to help establish the Mahampy Weavers' Cooperative in Sainte Luce, whilst collecting vital data on the characteristics and biological importance of the wetlands within which the reeds grow. Now into its second phase, SEED will continue to work closely with the cooperative members to improve financial resilience, supporting with financial education sessions as well as loan and savings schemes ๐Ÿ’Œ
