Popocatépetl Volcano Puebla, Morelos. This is the closest I have ever been to an active volcano, let alone live this close to one. Its name originates from Nahuatl popõca "it smokes" and tepétl "mountain". Mexicans affectionately call it, El Popo. Popocatépetl is about 730000 years old and is currently active after lying dormant for half a century. In Aztec mythology, Popocatépetl, a brave warrior fell in love with Iztaccihuatl but after finding her dead begged the ancient gods to keep them together for all eternity and so the gods turned him into the volano and her into the "sleeping white lady" mountain. It is said that if the lady is disturbed in her sleep that the volcano gets mad and blows smoke and ash high into the sky in protest trying to protect his lady love.
